Real Madrid survived a late scare as they secured a 3-2 victory over Alavés at the Santiago Bernabéu. Early goals from Lucas Vázquez, Kylian Mbappé, and Rodrygo gave Madrid a commanding lead before a dramatic late comeback from Alavés threatened to undo their hard work.
Madrid took the lead just after kickoff when Vinícius Júnior raced up the left channel after receiving a long ball from Federico Valverde. Vinícius set up Vázquez, who slotted home from close range. The home side doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Mbappé exchanged a quick one-two with Jude Bellingham and coolly finished past the goalkeeper.
The reigning champions seemed to have sealed the win shortly after the break when Rodrygo finished off a swift counterattack, sending the ball through Antonio Sivera’s legs. However, Real Madrid's defence faltered late on, allowing Carlos Benavídez and Kike García to score in quick succession in the 88th and 89th minutes.
Despite the late wobble, Madrid held on to take all three points. Vázquez reflected on the nervy finish, saying: “It’s a shame that with the performance we were putting in, it had to end like this. We played a great game until the 88th minute but lost concentration and had to suffer more than we should have.”

Vienna Derby Fan Ban After Violence
In Austria, Rapid Vienna and Austria Vienna have agreed to ban away fans from the next four derbies following violent clashes between supporters during Sunday’s game, which left at least 13 people injured. Videos of masked fans storming the pitch after Rapid’s 2-1 win circulated on social media, showing pyrotechnics and violence.
Viennese police reported that 10 officers were injured during the derby, with criminal charges filed against 152 people. The clubs are working to ensure the safety of fans and hope to reintroduce away supporters in the future. Rapid Vienna stated, “Violence should not and must not have a place in our sport.”
