Chelsea star Cole Palmer stole the show in a pulsating 4-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, cementing the Blues’ position as second in the Premier League and cutting Liverpool’s lead to four points. This marks Chelsea’s fourth consecutive league win under new head coach Enzo Maresca, continuing their electrifying start to the season.
A Rollercoaster Encounter
The clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, December 9, saw Chelsea fight back from a shaky start. Spurs raced to a 2-0 lead within 11 minutes, but a 17th-minute strike from Jadon Sancho pulled Chelsea back into contention.
Palmer played a starring role, equalising from the penalty spot in the 61st minute with his trademark composure. The 22-year-old then set up Enzo Fernandez for the go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute, showcasing his incredible pace and vision. Palmer capped off his sublime performance with an audacious Panenka penalty in the 84th minute to make it 4-2. Though Son Heung-Min added a late goal for Spurs in injury time, Chelsea emerged victorious.
Cole Palmer: A Record-Breaker
Palmer’s penalty prowess was the highlight of the evening, as his brace from the spot propelled him into the Premier League history books.
The young midfielder now holds the record for most penalties scored without missing in Premier League history, with 12 successful spot-kicks. This surpasses Yaya Toure’s perfect record of 11, a feat untouched since the Manchester City legend’s final league season.
Palmer’s impact didn’t stop there. His contributions in the match also saw him surpass Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s record for most goal contributions in a calendar year for Chelsea. With 38 goals and assists in 2024, Palmer eclipsed Hasselbaink’s 37 from 2001.

Cole Palmer’s brilliance is shaping Chelsea’s resurgence, and the Blues look unstoppable in their pursuit of Premier League glory this season.
