Manchester City narrowed the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal, trailing by just one point with a game in hand, after a convincing victory over Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

In what promised to be a challenging encounter, City took control early, securing a commanding three-goal lead by halftime.

This win propelled them into second place, leapfrogging Liverpool and putting pressure on Arsenal at the top.

The momentum shifted in City's favor with Kevin de Bruyne's impressive header, marking his 68th Premier League goal and setting the tone for the match.

Phil Foden controversially doubled the lead soon after, benefitting from a disputed free-kick decision by referee Jarred Gillett, which saw Brighton's Pascal Gross inadvertently deflect Foden's set-piece into the net.

Brighton's hopes of a comeback were further dashed when Foden calmly slotted home his second goal after 34 minutes, capitalizing on defensive errors from the home side.

As Brighton attempted to regroup and limit the damage, City continued to press. Just after the hour mark, a challenge between City's Kyle Walker and Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele saw the ball slip away, allowing Julian Alvarez to extend City's lead with a well-taken opportunity.
